Looking for a healthy snack for your baby or toddler? An simple fruit-and-yogurt blend is one of our favorite options to have on hand. Start with our creamy homemade yogurt recipe, and simply swirl in a pouch of our biodynamic baby food puree.
While you can use store bought yogurt, we always prefer to make our own (and it's a lot easier than you might think!). A homemade recipe gives you the peace of mind of knowing exactly what is inside your baby's snack. We hear from a lot of parents about how most of the baby yogurts on the market are very sweet and they are unsure of the quality of the milk and other ingredients. Making your own yogurt is cheaper, easy and puts you in charge of the quality, portion size, and added ingredients.
One of the most important things to note when making your own yogurt is choosing the right milk. GMO-free and Organic milk is an amazing start but going the step further and sourcing grass-fed or even a local grass-fed option is an often overlooked step.
Grass-fed milk is the healthiest milk option, as it is a much better source of heart-healthy fats along with certain antioxidants. Omega-3 fatty acids, in particular, are found to be twice as high in grass-fed milk as compared to conventional milk, which is due to the cow's diet. As the name suggests, the milk comes from cows with a diet based on grass all year round. These cows graze on pasture until the winter when they are then fed cut grasses inside the barn. This natural diet results in a high content of an omega-3 fatty acid called alpha-linolenic acid, which is helpful in reducing inflammation and certain heart issues.
When you add our biodynamic / regeneratively farmed fruit and vegetable purees you now have an amazing snack for your kids that gives them probiotics as well as essential nutrients and vitamins.
While we've made versions of this recipe for our son throughout his baby and toddler years, it's also something older kids will also love, especially if you give them fruits, nuts and toppings to add in themselves.
